What is thermal imaging and its applications?
Thermal Imaging is a word commonly being thrown around a lot and frankly, it’s nowadays a necessity everywhere around us too. But, do you know what is thermal imaging and the applications for it in modern society?

What exactly is thermal imaging?
It is simply the usage of infrared radiation to help create an image for us to analyse the surroundings. It can work as well in the dark, foggy, and many other environments that has low-light and visibility. This will make it extremely useful in lots of situations which we will discuss more about it later on in the page.
How does thermal imaging work?
First, the infrared energy will be emitted from all objects. This is also known as heat signatures in which the radiation is based of the infrared energy being emitted. Generally, the hotter the object is, the more radiation it will be emitted. Thermal camera is a sensor device that is able to detect small differences in the temperature. This is also the same device that is used to helps us create the image. There is coloring display as well to help users to differentiate the objects temperature.


Applications of thermal imaging
Now that we know what is the purpose and how it works, it is time now to see how it applies in reality. In today’s context, thermal cameras is used in surveillance by the authorities to help deter crimes. It is also used in inspections and maintenance for mechanical equipment to ensure it has no issues and working fine. Currently, thermal cameras are mainly used in shopping malls,offices and airports,etc during this Covid-19 pandemic. It is to detect people’s body temperature for fever as it is one of the symptoms. There is many more applications in today’s modern society not shown here but these are the few common usage of it.
