What is DVR ?
DVR stands for Digital video recorder. It is an electronic device that will records video in digital format to a hard disk, USB flash drive, SD memory card, SSD or other local or networked mass storage device. DVR transmit via coax cable.
DVR will change the raw footage sent from analog signal to digital video file and compress it via the coax cable.
What is NVR?
NVR stands for Network video recorder. An NVR system encode and process the video data at the camera, then stream it to the NVR recorder which is used for storage and remote viewing. IP cameras can be recorded using an NVR. Cameras are connected to an NVR using a switch or router. IP cameras are transmitted using Lan cable/network.
Having a NVR system will be much more better than having a DVR. As for NVR system needs a power adapter and ethernet cable to power and network to the camera from the system. You no need to worried about the distance and location issues as you can be use ethernet switches to further the distance of your camera from the system. Another method is using wireless connection so that you can put your cameras wherever you want.
How many channels does DVR and NVR have?
DVR and NVR comes in 4,8,6,32 channels.It depends on how many cameras you want to install. Find out the types of CCTV cameras you want to install and where you want to place your DVR or NVR system.
DVR work with analogue CCTV system while NVR works with IP CCTV system. Each camera needs to have its own cable to connect to the DVR. Each port corresponds to a channel. A 4 channel can connect to 4 cameras and 8 channels can connect to 8 cameras.
